Flanders Fields Museum

The In Flanders Fields Museum is housed in the Cloth Hall of Ypres. The museum is dedicated to the First World War and focuses on the personal stories in the larger story of the conflict that partly determined world history. The permanent exhibition highlights the leading up to the war, the invasion of Belgium, the first period of the war of movement, the trench warfare in Flanders, the destruction, the post-war period and the commemoration.

Museum

The museum tells the historical story of the First World War in the West Flemish front region. It is located in the rebuilt Cloth Hall of Ypres, an important symbol of war suffering and resurrection.

From this symbolic housing, the museum also pays great attention to the contemporary landscape as one of the last tangible witnesses. During your visit (and after climbing 231 additional steps) you can look out over the city and the surrounding battlefields from the restored Belfry.
