The Menin Gate is a memorial monument in the Belgian city of Ypres. The city gate was built by the British in 1927 on the eastern side of the city in memory of approximately 54,900 British soldiers who died in World War I and were not identified or recovered. It is the location where the ‘Last Post’ is played every evening at 8:00 p.m.

The last post

The Last Post, traditionally the final farewell to the fallen, is played by the buglers of the Last Post Association in honor of the soldiers of the former British Empire and its allies who died in the Ypres Salient during the First World War (1914-1918). The Last Post Association aims to perpetuate this daily tribute. Everyone is welcome to attend the Last Post ceremony free of charge, without the need for prior reservations.
